Springtime is right around the corner! I don’t know about you, but after a few months of staying home and hibernating, I’m extra ready for all the fun special events that come with the warmer, longer spring days.

From Easter to Mother’s Day to graduations, baby and wedding showers, and spring weddings, there’s so much to celebrate this time of year!  And that means one thing: the arrival of dress season.

This is good news if you love the ease of wearing spring dresses. I love dresses in theory, but in practice, I struggle with finding styles that fit my size 12 bottom half and smaller upper body. But I found a way to take the stress off of dress shopping. And that’s to always look for dresses that work for my body, rather than waiting for an invitation. Once there’s an event on the calendar, there’s the pressure to buy something or anything that will work. And that often leads to a purchase that’s only so-so rather than one that I’m excited to wear repeatedly.

I’ve been looking at spring dresses since they hit the stores, and today, I have 6 to show you.  I’m also sharing a roundup of some of the most eye-catching dresses. You’ll see options you can dress up for a spring wedding, or wear more casually to Easter, a shower, Mother’s Day or graduation.

6 cute spring party dresses

Springtime is known for florals and eyelet but I’m drawn to all the fresh colors.

First up is a dress with a strong group of devoted fans!

1. The Anthropologie Somerset Maxi Dress

This Anthropologie maxi dress is a bestselling dress that’s so loved that people own several. It has such a following that other retailers are trying to capitalize on its success by creating duplicates at a lower price point. It’s a bit of an investment dress, and you’ll pay what you’d expect to pay for a wedding guest dress.

The long length makes it one you can dress up for a spring or summer wedding. The fabric makes it versatile and one you can also wear to a graduation ceremony, shower, holiday brunch, or a nice dinner out. Wear it with heels, slides, or leather flip-flops.

I was surprised by how flattering it is, with an empire waist, a-line tiered skirt, notch v-neck, short sleeves, and an elasticized waist for definition. It also has pockets!

I love that they offer non-floral pattern options and solid colors. They release new patterns every season, so you can return to it repeatedly if it’s a style you love.

I tried it in two patterns. The pink and orange writing dress is my favorite for my olive skin tone; you’ll find this color combination everywhere now. The white and blue ombre option below is also fun.

It’s offered in petite and plus sizes. And also a mini dress that hits above the knee.

2. Loft striped v-neck shirtdress

Striped shirtdresses are having a moment this spring! Instead of a collar, this Loft dress has a flattering deep v-neck. Tan and black color-blocked shoulders add visual interest, drawing the eye to the face and creating the illusion of open shoulders. ¾-sleeves end right above the elbow and have decorative ties. A cinched waist and full a-line skirt make this a dress you can wear with heels for a wedding shower or flat slides for a night out.

I’m wearing it in a medium, and with a 36-B bust, it was a little loose on me; I may be able to wear it in a small.

3. The Quince Cotton Tiered Maxi Dress

If you love the Anthropologie Somerset Dress but are not prepared to pay that much, Quince offers a great alternative in 4 solid colors. The style is exactly the same: a flattering empire waist, a-line tiered skirt, a notch neckline, short sleeves, and pockets. The “vermillion red” is my power color and I had to order it. I adore this dress! It’s so flattering. It’s an instant yes for me and will be on permanent rotation for all my spring and summer events.

If you’re unfamiliar with Quince, they boast that they sell high-quality essentials at radically lower prices. They offer free shipping and returns for 365 days.

I’m wearing it in a medium, and it’s a perfect fit.

These gold heels sold out fast from Nordstrom and DSW, but I linked to 2 other retailers selling them. The low and wide heel is very comfortable. Gold metallic is very on-trend.

4. Amazon green notch-neck dress

This green notch-neck dress from Amazon screams garden party to me. Its flowy a-line shape is very forgiving in the midsection. The notched v-neck draws the eye up to the face. The ruffle sleeve stops short of a puff sleeve and adds charm and visual interest to the dress. It’s super easy to wear and hits above the knee for me at 5’6”.

Dress it up with gold heels, jewelry, and a bag for a spring wedding, or wear it casually with flat slide sandals and a bag.

5. Lauren Ralph Lauren black floral dress

If you’re heading to a formal Spring wedding and you feel most comfortable wearing black but want something springy, this black and cream floral midi dress from Lauren Ralph Lauren is the perfect choice.

Dress | Similar Heels | Bag | Bracelet

With a flattering v-neck, sleeves that hit above the elbow, a tie belt, and subtle ruffles on the hem, this dress is stunning and a classic you’ll wear for years.

Since I’m smaller up top than on the bottom, any dress must fit my size 12 bottom half. And this one is perfect.

I’m wearing it with layered necklaces, oversized pearl drop earrings, black ankle-wrap heels, and a black Coach purse.

This dress is from Zappos, which is great if you’re an Amazon Prime member since you can take advantage of Amazon’s free, fast shipping and easy returns on Zappos purchases.

6. J.Crew Factory green floral midi dress

I tried this dress on on a whim and left the store, but I kept thinking about it and went back to get it later. The vibrant green and white pattern is perfect for a spring shower, party, or graduation. A keyhole neck opens into a v-neck. The full belted midi skirt is perfect if you’re a size 12 on the bottom like I am.

I’m wearing it in a size 6, which perfectly accommodates my 36-B bust and size 12 lower half.
