A classic leather jacket is a style staple and a tailored piece that’s timeless. It’s a luxury piece that women of all ages can wear. And makes a statement every time you wear it.

With a bit of an edge, a leather jacket says you’ve got an independent spirit. It’s an item that becomes part of your outfit and defines your personal style.

A quality leather jacket is an investment piece and a bit of a splurge. To avoid buyer’s remorse and see if an expensive purchase feels like me, I like to try a less expensive option first in the shape, color and style I’m considering, before dropping a ton of money on one of the pricier and best brown leather jackets.

Leather jackets come in different colors and different styles.

Styles of leather jackets

When you first think of buying a leather jacket, you probably think of a motorcycle jacket, AKA, a moto jacket. Traditionally, these are biker jackets. They’re hip-length, with a diagonal heavy zipper up the center, pocket zippers, and visible snaps and clasps. A true motorcycle jacket is heavy, durable and provides protection in case of a motorcycle accident. Today’s fashion motorcycle jackets are lighter weight but still have the slick styling and sleek form that defines your look. In terms of color, a black leather jacket has more of an edge to it than a brown jacket. You’ll also see brown suede jackets that have a softer look.

Let’s look at a few other styles.

Racer jackets have a simpler style with a stand up collar and minimal adornments. This is the type of dark brown leather jacket that Anne Hathaway wore in her iconic last scenes of The Devil Wears Prada. So simple, chic and stylish. A racer jacket is the best option if you want a more classic look to your leather jacket.

You probably recall bomber jackets from the ’90s. This waist-length jacket originally worn by pilots has a ribbed waistband and ribbed cuffs and comes with or without a shearling collar.

When you see a leather trucker jacket, you’ll recognize the style as similar to the shape of your standard denim jean jacket. With multiple vertical front seams and buttons, a stand up collar, and breast pockets.

Last but not least, leather blazers come in a variety of blazer styles, from double-breasted to simple two-button blazers.

If you have a brown leather jacket hanging in your closet, you’re probably excited to figure out how to put together outfits with it. I’ve got 15 outfit ideas for you to inspire your looks!

A leather jacket is a style maker at every age! Choose the style of a leather jacket that feels like you and pair it with classic neutral pieces for an instantly chic look. How to choose the leather jacket style for you

When you’re considering buying an investment piece like a leather jacket, consider your overall aesthetic. If you’re a minimalist and like simple clean and classic lines, try a racer jacket. If you want an edgier jacket, try a motorcycle jacket. Go for a trucker jacket if you have a very casual style. To elevate your work looks, play with a leather blazer. Remember that a leather black jacket creates an edgier look than brown leather. Try several styles on in the stores first. And take selfies in them to see what you really love. And then choose the style that feels most like you.
